Roth Estate Wines
Our final stop on Chalk Hill Road for this trip was at Roth Estate. I was looking forward to their Cabernet but they only had one on the tasting menu. nevertheless, their wines were delicious. We had a lovely outdoor tasting on a rather warm day.
This beautiful tasting room would be a great experience with friends.
We started with a Sauvignon Blanc that was refreshing while we got settled outside. I noticed melon, pineapple, tropical fruit with a soft mouth feel. We had this again and experienced an evergreen forest. The Pint Gris had a lot of melon and minerals.
The Chardonnay was fruit forward and the Pinot was on the lighter side.
We finished off with an excellent Cabernet. We would have taken some wine with us but we were on our way to Hawaii and would have had to leave it in a hot car for 10 days.
So….. since we couldn’t buy wine on that trip we went back to Chalk Hill in September and did some more tasting. This time Charity helped us to a 2014 Carneros Chardonnay. Caramel in the nose, nice buttery fruit.
Among the highlights was this 2014 Trenton Road Pinot Noir. This wine is big, fruity with a spicy finish.
We brought this Chardonnay home and enjoyed it on a sunny day in Tinytown. It is a light, easy drinking wine with lemon and tropical fruit.
