Robert Young Estate Winery
This is the place to go for Chardonnay! Located in the Alexander Valley, they have a family feel as well a a bit of old school. Small tasting room so we like to get there right at 10:00 when they open.
We tasted three Chardonnays the last time we were here:
2015 Chardonnay Area 27. This is fermented in a large egg-shaped cement vat so 50% concrete and 50% neutral french oak. This is a nice Chardonnay, but after trying several bottles of this and the net one with various pairings we prefer:
2015 Alexander Valley Chardonnay – Tropical Fruits an baked goods. Warm fruit with a beautiful silky mouth feel. this is a Chardonnay to come back to again and again.
2014 Barrel Select – New Oak, full malolactic. This one had less appealing characteristics for our palate.
A nice map of their vineyards.
We come for the Chardonnay bit we also tasted a 2013 Petit Verdot – Nice cherry candy fruit but really tannic on the finish.
2013 Scion Cabernet Sauvignon – didn’t take any notes.
Beautiful estate in a beautiful location. For us, all about the Chardonnay.
