Summertime

When Matthew Cook was first beginning to record albums, he made two that he thought of as a pair. The Rose and Other Love Songs was built largely around familiar standards, while Summertime gave him a chance to bring more contemporary songs into his solo piano repertoire.

The album includes interpretations of songs such as Wooden Ships, Your Song and Wonderful Tonight, alongside two especially beautiful ballads, No Frontiers and Storm Warning.

At the center of the album is a distinctive and rollicking interpretation of Summertime itself—a familiar song taken in a very different direction at the piano.
