We’ve spent two nights in the lovely little town of Mendocino this weekend while we attended a picnic over in Anderson Valley. We love it here and we love Cafe Beaujolais. Last nights dinner was as always, beautiful and delicous so I’m here to share some of the deets and food porn with you.
We started off sharing an aperitif they called 961 Ukiah Cocktail followed by the special which was an appetizer of nettle pasta and because Tynel told us the Foie was delcious we had that as well. When you get a bite of the Foie with a strawberry, a little of the reduction and the pickled rhubarb, well, it was enough to make my eyes roll back in my head. We paired the apps with the recommended Navarro Cluster Select Gewürztraminer. We had visited the winery bright and early the same morning. A favorite.
The entree for the birthday boy was Prime Beef 2 ways which was Filet Mignon and 24 hour braised short ribs. There were some black trumpet mushrooms for an added decadence.
I had halibut. It was served with a spinach and basic pesto, mendocino sea lettuce (not sure where or what that was) and spring pea puree. Darn if yet again my halibut was right on the verge of overcooked. Not quite but close. I’m going to have to start saying something in advance when I get my favorite fish. But it really was all delicious and I cleaned my plate.
Then, even though we did NOT need dessert, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity for coconut cream pie with a nutty crust and a 1/2 pint jar of Guatemalan chocolate ..something. Like a mousse or pudding. Wow, the bitter sweet of the chocolate came right through.
Our server was really friendly and super attentive. I told her I want someone like her to take care of me when I’m old. I just loved her caring energy. She said, “that’s funny, because I LOVE old people.”
It was a fantastic experience, as always. Afterwards we rolled ourselves back to the tower where we are staying and flopped into bed before the sun went down.
